Room 04 - The Power of Storytelling: Connect your kids to each other and them to you.
Limited Capacity seats available

To build community of any size, two things are required: Something in common… and telling your story. In the year of Covid19, then need to build (or re-build) school connections is more critical than ever and embracing the power of storytelling is the key to reconnecting our school communities and reaching our students in meaningful ways.
Stu Cabe, the founder of The Ovation Company, is one of the country’s most renowned youth speakers and has been telling “meaningful stories” for nearly 25 years. Known as “The Big Elephant” guy, Stu has presented to countless schools in Washington state (and all over the country), speaking to nearly 120,000 students each year. Over 1.3 million students have heard Stu speak, and the secret to Stu’s success is simple: he is a true storyteller. In this session, Stu will share his trade secrets, techniques and easy to use “story starters” that are sure to not only connect students to each other, but also students to their teachers. Stu believes stories are the most powerful way to learn, connect and motivate people of all ages. Giving students (and educators) permission to tell their story in a safe and strategic way opens the door to new connections that improve learning and build connections. Joining Stu in this session is Stu’s new colleague and business associate, Nic Peterson, a veteran activities director out of Fresno, California. Between Stu’s 20 year career of large group presenting and Nic’s “real world” application with kids in the classroom, this session promises to be informative, entertaining and uplifting. Stu and Nic look forward to meeting you all!

Room 10 - Redefine Success
Limited Capacity seats available

We often view success by our ability to set a goal and then achieve that desired outcome. We may define ourselves by what we do, and what awards we have won – but that is not the only definition of success. While results are important, it is equally important to create a mechanism that keeps us motivated and inspired along the way. Sometimes goals change, sometimes unforeseen circumstances come in to play, and through all that, we can remain resilient with a success criteria.
In this workshop, participants will be guided through a process to lead them to their new success criteria, that will allow them to see the success in the everyday.

Room 01 Meet the Pros - Virtual Student Life
Limited Capacity seats available

The COVID closure forced our hands into rapidly adapting to a new way of communication and socializing.  I'll discuss how the Lakeridge student life hub came about when school closed last March and how it has evolved as we move back into in-person learning.
We'll discuss using Google Classroom (or any platform accessible to all students) to create a hub for students to participate in activities and access information virtually. Creating a Student Life hub will increase participation and equity in your school while making it easier to distribute information and communicate with your entire student body. It's a win-win.

You'll walk away from this session with quick and easy ways to support (or establish) school culture and connect students by creating a "student life" Google Classroom of your own, including a list of activities your ASB teams can plan, promote and host virtually.

Some knowledge of Google Classroom or a similar platform is helpful, but not necessary.
